M. MASDEU

MONTSERRAT MASDEU’S FLORALS STIMULI by Josep M. Cadena

Montserrat Masdeu’s work is essentially floral. I have seen her several times and I have followed her with close complacency since the late eighties and during the nineties, in the Barcelona Kreisler gallery, now disappeared. And in January 2006 in this same Rusiñol Gallery, here in Sant Cugat.

This is why I think I have a certain capacity to declare that the flowers of this painter are not just compositions that concentrate on the formal aspects of the beauty of shapes, but they intuitively come to show us that all, in our spiritual interiors, we can be as greenhouses where our most positive resolve may germinate and grow towards ourselves and towards others.

But she can describe other situations and Montserrat Masdeu, both as a person and an artist, is also interested in a diversity of issues that she manages to raise in her urban and landscape paintings.

But where I see her more devoted is in her descriptions of flower stands and greenhouses, where flowers grow to meet the needs of a society that, materialistic as it is, needs to connect again with the spirituality that is the only open wide door that may propose a better future.
