BIOGRAPHY

Born in Jerez de la Frontera, in 1951. Once moved to Barcelona, ​​he studied at the Superior School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, where he teaches drawing since 1974. Scholarship from the University of Perugia, debuts individually in 1979 in Sant Cugat del Vallès. Later he exhibits in Santander, Terrassa, Girona, Olot, Vienna, Setúbal (Portugal), Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona. Participates in itinerants who carry their work throughout Andalusia.

Winner of numerous prizes (First Prize of Painting of the Directorate General of Fine Arts, Barcelona 1971, or the Inglada Guillot Prize in 1982). He has work in the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, ​​the Diputación Provincial de Santander and in different private collections.

Build the paintings from a beautician base. Skillful with drawing, creates an atmosphere of neo-romanticism. Figures of adolescents, urban themes, interiors, jazz orchestras, make up a pictorial universe where the solidity of a structure that moves between rigor and a sense of movement, of what is alive is not lacking.

His great ability to enter, both with line and with color, in the essences of formal realities, allows us to travel with him as we move from one picture to another, aware that we see, more than the established reality, what we see. For me, this Andalusian-Catalan who is Ruiz Ortega, born in 1951 in Jerez de la Frontera, student and later professor of many new artists in the Superior School of Fine Arts of Barcelona, ​​is the purest expression I know of the current painting experienced as a fact that responds to the human capacity to connect with the lasting validity of the spirit that is immemorial. He is from now on and is involved in the things that belong to all of us as members of the current society, but when we see him through his works we feel that he transmits the truths that, despite coming from far away, are permanent. He knows how to capture the musical tone that exists inside that exists from the origins and what has been built by other men, possibly unknown to us, who also felt the divine breath of creation that never stops. Therefore, when it captures a landscape, or describes a building, just as when it is fixed on a fish that has just been taken out of the water, we notice that in the essentiality of forms and tonalities there is air that moves a leaf lightly, the warmth of an environment that embraces us with an expression of sincere friendship or the rumor of the passing of a person who loves us and who comes to give us the most welcome welcome.

The Italy that Ruiz Ortega tells us is the one that he has seen with his heart and the one we carry within us since, still children, we knew of his existence as a generator of peoples. Not only the Italy of civilizations, Roman or Renaissance, but a deeper one, which with the Greeks discovered the essence of the concepts and spread them wherever they arrived. And although now it is a country shocked by all the convulsions that globally affect us, it has the root that serves as an example to continue believing in Humanity as a collective will of eternity. And that is what Ruiz Ortega explains in his work.
