TRANSCENDENT SENSE IN THE PAINTING OF RAFFAELLO OSSOLA
by Josep M. Cadena
Born in Locarno (Switzerland) in 1954, the painter Raffaello Ossola is a great Renaissance artist, who gives the opportunity with his art to discover again the virtues of Nature. When in our world it seems that the technicality prevails and the trips towards the space for the encounter of new worlds are considered normal, he makes us the offering of the tree that grows, lush, between his hands. So that the tree is the quintessential symbol of life and sums up the cyclical character of cosmic evolution. The death that leads to the resurrection, first of the matter and then of the spirit that accesses the superior space to which it has always been called. This is the true interstellar navigation, superior to the ships propelled by scientific energy and that this artist, who for the first time presents the Rusiñol Gallery of Sant Cugat, knows how to express.
In the painting of Raffaello Ossola beats the great question about the eternity to which the human being aspires. In one way or another, in the same way that we want to leave a social testimony of the passage of existence in a time and in a society, also among us there is the will to reach the beyond that we symbolize in the horizon line or in the dawn that always surprises us when we have occasion to contemplate it, trembling because it takes a new day, and dressed in pink and green as the poet Charles Baudelaire would write.
In the paintings of Raffaello Ossola there is also this auroral tremor, within the security of his compositions. And it is with his works heralds a new humanistic era: one in which the human being is not so much the measure of all things as the discoverer that belongs to a creation in which it must serve and that it is necessary to respect because, abusing from it only towards total destruction.
With his work the painter manages to situate us in the midst of the beauty of life, mutant in external forms when, like rock, he is affected by the forces of Nature, but unalterable in his essences. Raffaello Ossola observes the forms, but knows how to see beyond appearances. And thanks to that, it transmits the hope of a better life if we know how to be principled.
